Vijayawada: In a groundbreaking move, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on forest conservation, wildlife protection, and tribal welfare. This historic agreement, signed in the presence of Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan and Karnataka Forest Minister Eshwar B. Khandre, marks a significant step towards preserving the natural heritage of both states.
The MoU addresses a range of critical issues, including elephant management, information sharing, tribal training, anti-smuggling measures, eco-tourism, and the establishment of special task forces. This comprehensive approach aims to ensure the long-term sustainability of forest resources in both states.
One of the key areas of focus is elephant management. To address the growing human-elephant conflict, especially in Chittoor district, Karnataka will provide trained kumki elephants to help manage wild elephant herds. Additionally, both states will share information on forest management, wildlife conservation, and anti-poaching activities to enhance their efforts.
Recognizing the importance of tribal communities and their deep connection to forests, the MoU includes provisions for training and skill development programs for tribal people. By empowering these communities, the governments aim to promote sustainable livelihoods and strengthen their role in forest conservation.
To promote eco-tourism and sustainable development, the states will collaborate on initiatives to enhance tourism opportunities while minimizing environmental impact. Furthermore, joint task forces will be formed to combat illegal activities such as smuggling of red sandalwood and sandalwood, thereby protecting the valuable forest resources.
Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan expressed his enthusiasm for this historic agreement, stating that it was inspired by his childhood admiration for Rajkumar and his commitment to forest conservation. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between the two states to address common challenges and ensure the well-being of both humans and wildlife.
Karnataka Forest Minister Eshwar B. Khandre highlighted the global significance of this agreement in addressing climate change and the urgent need to protect forests. He emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts between states to conserve their natural heritage.
The MoU between Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka is a testament to their commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development. By working together, the two states can achieve significant progress in preserving their forests and ensuring a greener future for generations to come.
