On Thursday, the Hyderabad Task Force Police raided multiple sweet shops and ice cream parlours to crackdown on adulterated food. The raid resulted in the arrest of 9 people found guilty for selling adulterated food.

B. Limba Reddy, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Task Force told the media, “They were adulterating ice creams by mixing non ISI certified milk powder, expired synthetic colours, electrolysis chemical powders and vanaspati. Sweets, especially petha, was being adulterated by mixing white wash cement, phitkari, sodium hydro sulphide and artificial food colours. Tomato, chilli sauces and vinegar are being manufactured illegally without licence.”

The establishment’s owners that were caught with the illegal or expired items were arrested by the officials.

The officials have been conducting these raids for the past week to keep a check on adulterated food.

It was reported on Wednesday 6 people were arrested by the officials for adulterated food at ice cream shops.

These shops were also being illegally run without the proper licence and required permission from the authorities.

On Tuesday, police reported there was an arrest of 15 individuals who were part of an illegal racket of injecting Oxytocin into buffaloes for more milk production.

The police released a statement that said, “With the practice of injecting Oxytocin twice a day, the drug remains in the milk and results in serious issues like breast cancer, prostrate cancer and impotency in men. This practice of adulteration will also result in severe medical issues in adolescents.”
