The Mahabubabad police conducted an undercover operation on Tuesday. The police caught a doctor red handed conducting a gender determination test at Kuravi.

The private hospital, Swetha Nursing home was raided by the police and the accused doctor has been identified as Raparthi Srinivas. The police even seized the relevant equipment used to conduct these tests.

Reports have surfaced that the doctor was even conducting illegal abortions. The doctor has also been involved in female foeticide. The police have registered a complaint under the IPC, Medical

Termination of Pregnancy Act 1971, Indian Medical Council Act, and the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act 1994.

The reports have also revealed that the accused charged Rs. 3000 to determine the gender of the baby and between Rs. 7,500 and Rs. 12,000 for an abortion.

The police informed the media that this racket has been going on since 2013 and the accused is estimated to have performed over 300 illegal abortions.

The mission was carried out by an undercover female cop who went to the hospital seeking an abortion along with a local couple. It didn’t take long before Srinivas spilled the beans about his illegal business.

The hospital was sealed by the police after the raid.

The State government has started a new way to promote institutional deliveries at government hospitals. Offering ‘KCR Kits’ which were officially launched last week at the Government Maternity Hospital in Hyderabad.

The kit costs Rs. 2000 and consists baby oil, soaps, a mosquito net, sarees, dresses, handbag, powder, towels, napkins, a cradle, diapers, toys for the baby, and shampoo.

The reports have also announced that the state government plans to give Rs. 15,000 to the mother if she gives birth to a girl. Rs. 14,000 will be given to the mother giving birth to a baby boy.

The reform has been made by the government to reduce infant mortality rate.
