Tadepalli: YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) spokesperson Jupudi Prabhakar Rao accused the coalition government of targeting Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) colonies with unjust power disconnections and excessive billing. Addressing the media on Tuesday, he claimed that 20 lakh households in SC/ST colonies faced power disconnections due to inflated arrears, despite low consumption.
Jupudi highlighted that during Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s tenure, free power up to 200 units was provided to SC/ST colonies. However, the coalition government has been issuing arrears bills, even for consumption below 100 units, and disconnecting power without proper notification. He cited instances such as a ₹22,000 bill in Buttayagudem, ₹20,000 in another area, and ₹35,000 in Annamayya district, leading to power disconnections. Entire villages, such as E. Mallavaram in East Godavari, faced disconnections allegedly for not voting for the coalition.
YSRCP spokesperson Putta Siva Shankar alleged that the government is misusing tracking software to monitor private individuals. He cited an incident involving a critic of Pawan Kalyan, whose personal details were allegedly accessed. Shankar called this a dangerous trend and demanded accountability.
YSRCP student wing president Ravichandra urged immediate fee reimbursement, accusing the coalition of derailing the education system.
