Fathers across the world who consider their children to be more of a burden should take Jawed Khan as an example. 45 year old Jawed has been a Traffic Home Guard at Saifabad for the past 17 years.
Khan talks about how he had to quit his education during intermediate due to financial problems. He is adamant to not let his children have the same fate he did.
“I had to discontinue my intermediate, but I dream of seeing my four daughters and son successful so that they don’t have to live with a financial crisis. So I decided that after my duty hours, I will drive an auto to earn extra money,” explained Jawed Khan.
The change came about when his daughter topped her tenth SSC exams, this pushed Jawed to do more. He decided to do whatever he could to encourage her studies.
Jawed also said, “My daughters are working extra hard to make me proud, so I feel this is my duty to work hard for them.”
He proudly talks about his eldest daughter’s venture towards becoming a Chartered Accountant. “I was so happy when she cleared CPT exam. However, for Integrated Professional Competence Course (IPCC) which is the next level exam for CA, she had to again join coaching classes. For registration alone, we paid Rs. 10,000 and the coaching classes cost Rs. 52,000.”
Jawed never gave up hope and instead decided to work harder. He borrowed the money from his relatives and friends and works towards paying them back. Jawed’s working schedule is packed he works as a traffic home guard from 7 A.M., to 3 P.M., rests for a bit and rides an auto till 11 P.M.
“Somedays I manage to get only four hours sleep, but when I think about their education, I forget about my tiring day,” he said. Jawed says his wife has been his greatest support and she does embroidery work on sarees to make a little more money.
After working as hard as he can, Jawed still struggles to make ends meet. It’s not easy educating four children but Jawed knows the value of his family and his beautiful daughters. He even mentioned seeing a number of articles of families marrying off their daughters because of financial difficulties to which he said, “Daughters are the assets of the family. An educated woman can educate the whole family. I never want to take away that opportunity from them. Even today, when all my daughter’s friends have smartphones, she never demanded anything like that. She understands me and supports my effort by studying hard to make me proud.”
President of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen, Asaduddin Owaisi, and MP from Hyderabad has requested the Telangana government to help Jawed.
The minister also sent a letter out to the Minorities Welfare Department asking them to sanction scholarships for his children.
