The Central Bureau Investigation (CBI,) on Tuesday, questioned Satish Babu Sana, the complainant in the ‘CBI v/s CBI case.’

Satish Babu Sana, a Hyderabad based businessman, was the first person to register a complaint against Rakesh Asthana, the former CBI Special Director, for bribery.

M. Nageswara Rao, the Additional Director of the CBI, constituted a new team of CBI officials to probe the Rakesh Asthana case. The new team of CBI called Satish Sana to verify his statement, which was the base of the case against Rakesh Asthana.

According to Satish Sana’s statement, Manoj Prasad, an investment banker, Rakesh Asthana and Devender Kumar, Superintendent of Police, are the main accused in the bribery case.

A First Information Report (FIR) was filed by the CBI on the 15th of October, 2018, when the bribery case came to light. The FIR stated, Mr. Sana paid Manoj Prasad more than Rs. 3 crores to help Mr. Sana get relief from another CBI case related to meat exporter Moin Qureshi.

According to the initial investigation, Satish Sana paid the amount to middlemen in instalments of Rs. 1 crore on the 10th of December, 2017, Rs. 1.95 crores on the 13th of December, 2017, Rs. 25 lakhs on the 10th of October, 2018 and 25,000 Dirham (United Arab currency) and 3,000 Dirham on the 14th of October, 2018.

Satish Sana gave a statement before, on the 4th of October and the 16th of October, 2018, which was recorded before a magistrate as a confessional statement.

After Mr. Satish’s confession, a case was registered against the Rakesh Asthana and the other two accused, Manoj Prasad and Devender Kumar.

Later, the case turned into a big dispute between the then CBI Director, Alok Verma and Special Director, Rakesh Asthana, when the latter denied the charges of bribery against him and alleged Alok Verma for the same.

After the feud between Alok Verma and Rakesh Asthana came to light, they were relieved of their duties and sent on compulsory leave by the Central Government.
