In South-East Delhi’s Kalkaji area a 90 year old Govind Ram was found living with the body of his dead wife Gopi, police reported on Tuesday.
Govind’s neighbours informed police last night of stench coming from his house and that is when the situation came to light. The police stated Govind is mentally unsound and has been living with the body of his wife in their one room flat.
As Gopi’s body was found on the floor, Ram was seen lying on the bed. Gopi’s body was decomposed and it seemed like she died a few days ago. Govind and his wife lived in neglected conditions as the flat was poorly kept.
“Govind Ram told us his wife, who was bed ridden for the last few years, fell down from the bed yesterday and did not get up. He is frail and undergoing treatment at AIIMS,” DCP (Southeast) Romil Baaniya stated.
The autopsy was conducted on the dead body and no signs of foul play were noticed. The exact cause of the death will be known after a proper post-mortem report.
Govind Ram is at AIIMS hospital undergoing treatment; his distant relatives were informed about the incident and were called to take care of him.
