The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has approved two companies to produce Lab grown meat for consumers in the United States of America (U.S.A.,) market.
On the 22nd of June, Thursday, Upside Foods and Good Meat, two food producing companies were given a green signal for the lab grown meat production. This is the first time in the U.S.A., that the federal Government granted permission for two separate businesses to offer their lab grown meat and chicken products to people.
With this Upside Food and Good Meat would sell chicken that has been grown from a cluster of sample animal cells in large metal vats. The approval of Lab Grown meat in the United States marks a new era of sustainability, without harming animals.
How Lab Grown Meat Produced?
The process of making lab grown meat, also called “cultured” or “cultivated” meat, begins with sampling cells from the tissues of a living animal. Without permanently harming or killing the animal, cells of their tissue would be collected and then screened and stored in a cell bank. Cells are later collected from the bank and moved to large, enclosed vessels, often steel tanks. These collected cells then multiplied into meat, through technology. This new lab grown meat gives a choice of perseverance having no animal killed in the process of meat production.
Furthermore, with the USDA approval, the United States became the second nation to have lab grown meat for consumers in the market. In 2020, Singapore became the first nation to have lab grown meat for consumers.
