Vijayawada: Dwaraka Tirumala Rao, the outgoing Director General of Police (DGP) of Andhra Pradesh, was given a grand farewell parade as he retired from service. Speaking emotionally at the event, Rao reflected on his long and challenging journey with the police force. “These are tense moments for me as I step out of uniform. The journey from traditional policing to technology-driven policing has been an exciting yet challenging one. Over the years, we’ve made significant strides in handling cybercrime, ganja smuggling, and crimes against children,” said Rao, highlighting the bravery and commitment of the AP Police, especially during natural calamities.
New DGP Harish Kumar Gupta also addressed the gathering, praising Rao for his outstanding contributions to the police department. Gupta noted that Rao’s tenure had seen crucial reforms aimed at improving the safety and security of the public, including the formation of the Eagle Team to combat intoxicants. “As the new DGP, I promise to continue this legacy and focus on addressing public concerns, with a special emphasis on controlling cybercrime. Strict action will be taken against individuals posting obscene content on social media. Additionally, the Astram app will remain a milestone in traffic control,” Gupta said.
