
Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh DGP Harishkumar Gupta announced key initiatives to enhance women’s safety and cybercrime prevention in the state. Speaking on recent developments, he revealed that a Women Protection Wing has been established under the IG’s leadership, replacing the existing Women Protection Cell. Additionally, 164 ‘Shakti Teams’ have been deployed across the state to ensure swift response to distress calls, supported by the Shakti app.
The DGP emphasized special measures to curb cybercrime, including the establishment of cyber police stations in all 26 districts and a dedicated cyber wing under the IG. A plan is underway to install one lakh CCTV cameras across Andhra Pradesh, leveraging technology to monitor and prevent criminal activities. A specialized team of officers and technical experts is also being formed to tackle cyber-related offenses.
Gupta further stated that 11,000 acres of cannabis cultivation have been eradicated using drone and satellite surveillance. Authorities have begun seizing properties of drug traffickers, with stringent action planned against those involved in illegal activities.
The PD Act will be invoked against cybercriminals, and citizens have been urged to remain cautious against digital fraud. The DGP reaffirmed the police department’s commitment to maintaining law and order across the state.
