Tadepalli: Former Chief Minister and YSRCP President YS Jagan Mohan Reddy clarified that the power sale agreement between SECI (Solar Energy Corporation of India) and the Andhra Pradesh government was finalized at the lowest price of ₹2.49 per unit. He vowed to file a ₹100 crore defamation lawsuit against vernacular media outlets for publishing false allegations linking him to corruption.
Addressing the media on Thursday, Jagan emphasized that the agreement was a direct deal with SECI, with no involvement of third parties. He described claims of bribery as baseless and accused certain newspapers of deliberately distorting facts. “I demand a public apology within 48 hours, failing which I will take legal action,” he stated.
Jagan highlighted the advantages of the agreement, noting that SECI will supply 9,000 MW to the state, including 3,000 MW by September 2024, while waiving inter-state transmission costs. This deal is expected to save Andhra Pradesh ₹4,400 crore in the short term and nearly ₹1 lakh crore over 25 years.
He criticized opposition leader Chandrababu Naidu for agreeing to buy power at ₹5.90 per unit during his tenure, compared to the ₹2.49 per unit rate now. Jagan also defended his government’s achievements, including reforms in education, welfare programs through DBT, and developing ports and medical colleges.
