Hyderabad: Telangana’s Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister, Sitakka, has directed officials to formulate a robust action plan to mitigate potential water shortages in the coming summer. On Saturday, she chaired a high-level review meeting at the Mission Bhagiratha ENC office to assess summer preparedness measures for rural water supply.
Minister Sitakka emphasized that rural areas should receive daily drinking water that meets quality standards. She instructed officials to promptly address pipeline leaks and restore disrupted water supply within 24 hours. Continuous monitoring of water levels in rivers and reservoirs is essential, especially during peak summer months, she stated.
In addition to fixing hand pumps and both single-phase and three-phase pumps, the minister recommended deploying Mission Bhagiratha tankers for safe water supply when needed. She also stressed vigilance against waterborne diseases, ensuring daily chlorination of overhead tanks and cleaning them every 10 days. Coordination with panchayat secretaries is critical to achieving these goals, Sitakka added.
Officials present included Secretary Lokesh Kumar, Engineer-in-Chief Krupakar Reddy, and various Chief and Executive Engineers.
