Hyderabad: The Telangana government has revised its non-local quota policy, restricting access to engineering and other professional course seats for students from Andhra Pradesh. Under the new Government Order (GO) 15, issued by Education Secretary Yogita Rana, only students from the Telangana region will be eligible for the 15% non-local quota starting from the next academic year.

Previously, students from Andhra University (AU) and Sri Krishnadevaraya University (SKU) regions were allowed to compete for these seats under GO 74 (2011). However, with ten years completed since the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, the latest policy now ensures that only Telangana students can avail these unreserved seats.

Who is Eligible?

The revised policy allows three additional categories to apply under the 15% non-local quota:

  1. Children of parents residing in Telangana for over ten years due to employment or business reasons, with valid residence certificates.
  2. Children of central/state government employees and staff in public sector corporations, universities, and local bodies working in Telangana, regardless of their home state.
  3. Spouses of employees working in Telangana government departments, even if originally from another state.

Applicable Courses

The new rules apply to engineering, pharmacy, architecture, law, business administration, computer applications, education, and physical education courses, covering both undergraduate and postgraduate admissions.

The 85% local quota remains unchanged, ensuring priority for Telangana students in professional course admissions.
