Amaravati: A condolence meeting was held on Sunday at the Makineni Basavapunnaya Vigyan Kendra in Vijayawada to honor the late CPM General Secretary, Sitaram Yechury. State Minister Kolusu Parthasarathy lauded Yechury’s dedication to democracy and communism, stating that Yechury’s efforts to uplift the poor and propagate communist ideologies were immeasurable. “He believed in ideologies, not power, and lived as a true communist till the end,” Parthasarathy added.
Representatives from various political parties, including CPM, CPI, Congress, and YSRCP, paid tributes to Yechury. CPM politburo member BV Raghavulu criticized the BJP’s push for Jamili elections, equating it to the erosion of democracy. He stated that Yechury’s legacy should inspire efforts to protect the nation from authoritarianism.
Former Kerala minister MA Baby recalled Yechury’s early involvement in international communist movements and student activism. YS Sharmila, APCC President, praised Yechury for his secularist stance and his crucial role in uniting anti-BJP forces. She highlighted his instrumental efforts in forming the UPA government in 2004.
The event was attended by several leaders, including Ambati Rambabu, Vadde Sobhanadriswara Rao, and others.
