Delhi: The controversy surrounding Adani Group intensified this week after a case was filed in the United States, alleging that the conglomerate offered large bribes to Indian government officials to secure solar power supply contracts. The issue has sparked political debate, with the Congress party criticizing the Indian government’s response to the matter.
On Thursday, Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Randhir Jaishwal addressed the controversy, stating that the case is related to private entities and individuals, and falls under the jurisdiction of the US Department of Justice. Jaishwal clarified that the Indian government had not been involved in any discussions with the US authorities regarding the issue. He further confirmed that no summons or warrants had been issued to India by the US government in connection to the case.
In response, Congress leaders, including Jairam Ramesh, criticized the Indian government’s stance. Ramesh questioned how the government could remain uninvolved in the investigation, highlighting the lack of transparency and accountability. He emphasized the need for clarity regarding the government’s role in the ongoing investigation.
The allegations and the political fallout have raised questions about the accountability of both the Adani Group and the Indian government in this high-profile case.
