On the 28th of May, members of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) including 1 Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) and 40 Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP.)
Kailash Vijayvargiya, in charge of the BJP in West Bengal conducted a press conference and made an official announcement regarding the .
Apart from the TMC members, 1 MLA from the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI [M]) and 1 MLA from the Indian National Congress (INC) also switched to the BJP.
Shubhranshu Roy, the MLA of the TMC in Bijpur,Tushar Kanti Bhattacharjee, the MLA of the INC from Bishnupur and Debendra Nath Roy, the MLA of the CPI(M) from Hemtabad are the MLAs to join the BJP, in Delhi.
Mr. Vijayvargiya said, Prime Minister Narendra Modi warned the TMC and said, 40 MLCs and a MLA is in touch with the BJP and will soon change the Party.
The joining of the MLAs and the MLCs could be a major drawback for Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal in the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections.
After the loss of the TMC in the West Bengal Lok Sabha elections, the MLCs and MLAs joining the BJP is a favourable situation for the BJP to form a government in the State.
