Bapatla: Former Minister Merugu Nagarjuna has strongly criticized the TDP coalition government for burdening the public with a staggering Rs. 6,072 crore increase in power tariffs. Speaking at a press conference at the party’s central office, Nagarjuna highlighted that Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, who had assured voters that electricity charges would remain unchanged before the elections, reversed his position within just four and a half months. The recent hike of Rs. 1.58 per unit has left many citizens frustrated.
Nagarjuna accused the government of neglecting farmers, pointing out the discontinuation of free crop insurance and the failure to fulfill promises regarding agricultural investments. He labeled Naidu’s televised show “Unstoppable” as a platform filled with misleading statements aimed at garnering public sympathy.
The former minister also referenced Naidu’s arrest linked to the Skill Scam, involving the misappropriation of Rs. 371 crore, asserting that Naidu’s continuous denials only deepen the public’s skepticism. Nagarjuna raised concerns over the government’s decision to impose additional “True-Up” charges over the next 15 months, along with a minimum charge of Rs. 50, even if no electricity is consumed.
