Tadepalle: The YSRCP legal cell has raised concerns over alleged police harassment of social media activists, calling it a violation of civil rights. Speaking at a press event in Tadepalle on November 9, the legal cell highlighted the case of Sudha Rani from Chilakalurupeta, who reportedly endured over five days of unlawful detention, during which she suffered mental and physical distress.
According to YSRCP’s legal representatives, Sudha Rani’s detention extended to her family, as both she and her husband were held, while their children were sent to relatives. Although her husband is not a social media activist, he was detained and labeled as a co-accused (A2) in the charges against her. Allegations of physical abuse include her hands becoming swollen due to police actions.
The legal cell revealed that over 150 cases have been registered against social media activists, terming this a blatant human rights violation. They specifically pointed to Parkasam SP and Chilakalurupeta CI as being accountable for the illegal detentions and announced plans to file a private complaint against them.
Assuring support, the YSRCP legal cell emphasized that activists need not fear, as legal assistance will be provided to them.
