DSDMA Nods On Opening Of Hotels And Weekly Markets In Delhi

The Delhi State Disaster Management Authority (DSDMA,) on the 19th of August, approved reopening of hotels and weekly markets in Delhi. The authority also allowed reopening of weekly markets, which would be on trial basis.

Though hotels and markets are allowed to open in Delhi, gymnasiums would remain closed.

Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi and the President of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) announced the opening after the 5 months lockdown.

The Delhi Government was advocating the proposal to reopen hotels and markets in the Capital City, however Lieutenant Anil Baijal, the Governor of Delhi rejected the proposal citing COVID-19 situation.

The last proposal which got rejected was sent when the Central Government announced Unlock 3.0 across India.

However, on the 19th of August, the proposal was approved and the announcement regarding the same was made.

The decision to reopen hotels is likely to benefit around four lakh people employed in the hotel industry in the national capital.

Senior government officials said that the trial period for re opening weekly markets is likely to be anywhere between one week to 10 days.

However, gymnasiums and yoga centres cannot open in Delhi as of now. A decision on this will be taken at a later stage in another meeting of the SDMA.

Delhi in the past few days performed well in terms of COVID-19 prevention and recorded approximately 90% recovery rate.

Till the 19th of August, Delhi has a total of 1,56,139 positive cases, of which only 11,137 are active cases.
