On the 16th of December, Thursday, the Indian National Congress (INC) Members of Parliament (MPs) moved an adjournment notice to the Lok Sabha.

The MPs issued notice on the recent issue of Lakhimpur violence and non performing assets (NPAs) of Banks.  After the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe said the Lakhimapur violence was a planned conspiracy and suggested attempt to murder charges on the accused, the opposition created a ruckus in the ongoing Parliament session.  The opposition parties including the INC, the Trinamool Congress and others, demanded removal of Mr. Ajay Mishra Teni, the State Home Minister of Uttar Pradesh.  Notably, Ajay Mishra’s son Ashish Mishra is the main accused in the Lakhimpur violence, which killed 8 people including 4 farmers.

MP Mr. Manickam Tagore in his notice said, “The UP Police SIT has highlighted the massacre of farmers was a preplanned conspiracy and not a negligent act.”  He further said the SIT has recommended the addition or modification of charges against all accused.

In addition, the INC MP Mr. Deepender Singh Hooda also issued adjournment motion notice in Rajya Sabha over Lakhimpur Kheri incident and demanded that the Government take the resignation of Minister Ajay Teni immediately.

The Indian National Congress MP Mr. Manish Tewari also moved a notice on Bank non-performing assets (NPAs,) and said, “Least 8 banking unions have called for a strike on 16th and 17th of December, 2021 against the government’s attempts of privatisation in the banking sector.  The latest attempt is being made via the Banking Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2021.  The Public Sector Banks serve as the backbone of the Indian economy, serving their welfare purpose, ensuring financial inclusivity for all & ensuring credit facilities to credit-starved sectors like village and cottage industries, agriculture, etc.”  He added, “This matter of government’s relentless attempts to weaken the PSBs is a matter of concern and needs urgent discussion in the House.”

The Winter Parliament Session started on the 18th of November and would continue till the 23rd of December.
