My Starbucks Experience During #Starbucks100

Starbucks has a brilliant offer today called #Starbucks100. The offer is Rs. 100 for any drink inclusive of all taxes. This is in an effort to promote the franchise celebrating 100 branches across India. Sounds amazing right! But it’s not. To begin with, the crowd that packed Starbucks in Hyderabad, was suffocating and stacked like sardines.

Yes, the crowd was expected as it is a very lucrative offer, so I decided to let that go and get excited to order. I decided on a Golden Sparkle Frappuccino and my friend got himself a Caramel Java Chip. We stood there among nearly 30 people pushing their way to get to the counter or away from it. My feet got trampled on more than twice and I received an apology just once.

As we eagerly waited for our coffee, one of the customer’s looked at me with a smile and said, “This looks more like a fish market than a coffee shop.” I laughed and nodded in agreement.

The order arrived and we sprinted out of the shop to breathe fresh air instead of the smell of pungent perfumes that engulfed the temporary fish market. I am a coffee junkie and I went through 20 minutes of hell to get a cold glass of premium coffee, which at the time I felt was worth it.

But little did I know the excitement I felt to drink this Starbucks Frappuccino would feel like a spit in my face. Later, I was riding pillion with the two glasses in my hands. Even though our drinks were in take away glasses one of them began to spill. My friend had to slow the bike down to 30 kmph to save the precious coffee.

We reached work and I hurried to pop the straw into the glass and took a big sip. I had a smile on my face that instantly turned into a frown. This swill tasted like bath water with a hint of milk and a dash of coffee. I was disappointed and looked at my friend and said, “What’s the bet both our coffees taste the same?”

He looked at me and laughed as we exchanged glasses and took a sip. Voila! I was right it tasted just like my water based Frappiccino masquerading as milk coffee. The only difference was his had chocolate chips and mine had golden sparkles. Generally, golden sparkles mean golden sparkles but in this case, it was more like pink sparkles.

To conclude, my experience at Starbucks was utterly disappointing and will be the last for sure. My first article of #Starbucks100 was a ray of sunshine but this experience was a harsh sunburn.
