The Howrah Ram Navami violence between Hindus and Muslims created a political stir.  The West Bengal Government and the Central Government started their political blame game, for the violence on Ram Navami, which killed 14 people and left many injured.

In the two days, the 30th and the 31st of March,  stone pelting and arson incidents were reported.  Many shops were damaged and cars, rickshaws and autos were burnt.  Mr. Suvendhu Adhikari, the leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in West Bengal filed a petition and demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the violence, erupted during Ram Navami.

The BJP leaders said, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) led West Bengal Government gave a clean chit to those who caused the dangerous violence killing and injuring people.  Meanwhile, Ms. Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, blamed the BJP for sending goons amid Ram Navami procession and disturbing the harmony of the Kolkata City.

The TMC said, “The conspiracy was hatched by the ruling party in close collaboration with a section of the police.  In the recent bypoll to the Sagardighi Assembly constituency, Trinamool got a clear indication that a fast erosion in their dedicated minority vote bank has started.  So, the Howrah clashes were deliberately orchestrated to win back minority votes using the so-called ‘fear’ formula about the BJP.”

Meanwhile, a huge police force has been deployed in the parts of Howrah and section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC,) restricting gathering of people and any event has been imposed.  Moreover, internet services resumed after two days along with the security forces in place to ensure smooth functioning of shops and public transport, with no future clashes.
