Etala Rajender, the Health Minister of Telangana, on the 24th of April, addressed a press conference and spoke about the special arrangements in the food menu for Muslims.

Telangana starts the holy month of Ramadan from the 25th of April, following which the State Government directed Gandhi Hospital officials to be extra careful with the meals for Muslims.

Mr. Rajender said since many Muslim COVID-19 patients wished to keep roza (fasting during Ramadan,) the State Government made all the arrangements like meals and timings.

The fasting patients would get roti, dal, vegetable curry and plain rice for Sehri at 3:30 A.M.  On alternate days, they would get a non vegetarian meal which includes, mutton or chicken curry, dal, roti, plain rice and vegetable curry.

After the fast is over for the day, the iftar meal would consist of khichdi or flavoured rice also known as bagara rice or vegetable biryani with tomato chutney and chicken fry.   On alternate days, the menu would be chicken biryani, plain rice, vegetable curry, dal and egg.

Meanwhile, the menu for COVID-19 patients is also full of nutrition and protein.  For breakfast, the patients get a plate of idli, bread, jam, coffee or tea and dry fruits (almonds, cashew, dates.)

Meals are roti, dal, plain rice and eggs and chicken curry for non vegetarians and sambar, daal, vegetarian curry for ones who are vegetarian.

The state run Gandhi Hospital is a designated treatment centre for the Novel Coronavirus pandemic illness.

The Health Ministry said they decided upon the menu chart after careful planning ensuring there is sufficient protein and nutrition for the treatment of the COVID-19 patients.

Besides this, to boost immunity fruits like oranges, sweet limes are also served with bananas 

The meals are served in a hygienic way to the patients with an assurity of fresh and clean food.  

Meanwhile, Telangana reported a total of 984 cases of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 with 26 deaths till date.
