Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar which is also observed as the holy month for Muslims worldwide, begins from the 25th of April in Telangana.

According to the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee the crescent Moon is seen at different places at different times in the country, following which they begin their roza.  In Telangana, the holy month began from the 25th of April.  The first roza would be of 14 hours and 15 minutes and would extend to 14 hours and 39 minutes, the next day.

Muslims will begin Ramadan by keeping fasts from dawn until dusk and after offering evening prayers known as Maghrib they will end their fast.

After breaking the fast, they will have iftars with their families and friends.  However, this year due to the Novel Coronavirus pandemic, the situation would be different and everyone would be offering prayers at home following social distancing.

Prayers at mosques are suspended due to the ongoing lockdown, a precautionary measure to control the spread of the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 infection in the State.

The Taraweeh prayer which begins at different parts of the city at different times, depending upon the sighting of the moon at mosques has been suspended due to COVID-19 to avoid mass gathering.  Moulana Syed Qubul Pasha, the President of Majlis Ulema-e-Deccan, said,  “The taraweeh prayers at the mosques are not being held due to COVID-19 and social distancing issues.  People should do the prayers at their houses only.”

The month long fast started with seeing the Moon on the 25th of April and would end after a period of 29 days, when Muslims would see the new Moon and would celebrate Eid al Fitr.

K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, extended Ramadan wishes and urged people to abide by rules of the lockdown and to pray at their homes.
