Harish Rao Seeks Action As Telangana Rice Prices Rise

BRS Legislature Party deputy leader T Harish Rao has urged the Telangana government to take immediate steps to control rising rice and essential commodity prices.

In a statement on Monday, Harish Rao alleged that fine rice prices had risen by 25 per cent in four months. He said the increase was adding to the burden on households.

Harish Rao also questioned the State’s fine rice scheme. He said the rise in market prices raised questions about the scheme’s impact on consumers.

He further alleged that farmers were getting only nominal returns under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) system, while middlemen were earning more than ₹8,000 per quintal.

He also pointed to rising prices of other essentials. Onions were selling at ₹70 a kg, garlic at ₹240, groundnut oil at ₹210, green gram at ₹125 and red gram at ₹165, he said.

Harish Rao urged both the Centre and Telangana government to act against hoarding, black marketing and excessive profit margins.
