Concerned about the rising number of drug dealing cases and drugs racket in the City, the Hyderabad Police decided to conduct a rehabilitation programme targeting mostly youths.
The announcement came after recently a 22 year old student Rishi Sanjay Mehta was arrested for supplying drugs and hash brownies (drug brownies) to thousands of youths. Mehta, who is said to be a drug addict, started the drug supply business to maintain his expenses for drugs. With this arrest, it was noted that many youngsters, mostly between the age group of 18 to 24 years old are constantly doing drugs and becoming an addict. Most of them are students of elite educational institutions in Hyderabad.
To control the situation of the rising number of drug cases, the City Police announced the rehabilitation programme. On the 7th of November, Monday, a senior official of the Hyderabad Police said, “We have their details and soon we will be holding a rehabilitation program for them in association with health experts and in the presence of their family members.”
Furthermore, Mr. C.V. Anand, the Hyderabad Police Commissioner, said he would hold a meeting with the administration of educational institutions in Hyderabad and would seek suggestions to draft an Anti Drug Committee (ADC.) The Hyderabad Police would also mandate the formation of ACD in all institutes and colleges in the City. These committees in higher educational institutions would comprise a minimum of five members drawn from faculty and students and tasked to prevent drug abuse in the campus.
Working under the guiding principles of the Hyderabad Police, the ADCs would play a key role in creating awareness of the dangers of drug abuse through various digital campaigns, workshops, and seminars and would ensure their campuses are free from the scourge of narcotic substances.
