BRS working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) has opposed a proposal to set up an open-cast coal mine near Ramappa Temple in Mulugu district.
KTR said mining and blasting near the historic temple could threaten the UNESCO World Heritage Site and the nearby Ramappa Lake.
Reacting to media reports, KTR alleged that the Congress government was putting the heritage site at risk while seeking to extract mineral wealth. He said deep excavation and blasting could harm both the temple and the lake.
KTR said the BRS would oppose any move that could damage the historic site. He demanded that the proposed coal mine be withdrawn immediately.
He also warned that the party would launch a large-scale agitation if the proposal was not withdrawn.
Ramappa Temple is regarded as an important symbol of Telangana’s architectural heritage. The proposed mining activity has now triggered opposition from the BRS, with KTR calling for the project to be stopped.
