On the 13th of August, Sabita Indra Reddy, the Education Minister of Telangana, hinted to reopen schools from the 1st of September.
After recent discussions regarding reopening of schools, the Telangana Government is planning to conduct offline classes from the 1st of September. This is the third time the Telangana Government hinted to reopen school. However, due to the ongoing Wuhan virus, also known as the Novel Coronavirus pandemic, they are unable to make a final decision.
Ms. Sabita Indra Reddy said the Education Department has submitted a proposal to reopen schools in the State to the Telangana Chief Minister Mr. K. Chandrashekar Rao. He would take a final decision after reviewing the current situation of the Wuhan virus and the submitted proposal. In addition, an Education Department official, who wished to be anonymous said, “The plan right now is to start direct teaching from September 1. We have to conduct Intermediate first year exams as soon as possible.”
Meanwhile, on the 17th of July, the TRS Government announced to begin offline classes for the engineering colleges from the 17th of August.
While the engineering degree classes would begin from the 17th of August, a final decision regarding school reopening is yet to be taken.
It is to be noted, schools in Telangana have been shut from March 2020, when the first lockdown was imposed across the nation. Since then, the schools and colleges of Telangana have been closed. Though the Education Department ordered online classes, students are suffering a huge loss of education due to the pandemic situation.
If reopened post Independence Day, the 15th of August, it would be opened after a long gap of 19 months. (1 year 7 months.)
Meanwhile, briefing about the COVID-19 situation, today the 14th of August, Telangana reported 427 new cases, taking the total active cases to 7,812.
