Telangana Government Approves Vaccination For People Above 18 Years In Private Hospital

On the 25th of May, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) permitted private hospitals in the State to give vaccination against the Wuhan virus.  With this, people between age group of 18 to 44 years old could visit any private hospital to administer doses of India made vaccine against the Wuhan virus or Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19.)

The private hospitals which have designated private COVID-19 vaccination centres in the state can no administer vaccines to eligible individuals.  The State Government also permitted private hospitals to conduct vaccination drives in workplaces (on request made by institutions/ companies/gated companies etc) by registering on CoWIN portal and following COVID-19 vaccination guidelines.

Earlier, K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, prohibited private hospitals from giving vaccination to people abive 18 years old.  Only people above 45 years old were allowed to take vaccination at private COVID-19 designated centres.

However, considering the current situation and the second wave of the Novel Coronavirus, the Telangana Government gave the permission.

The decision came on the day, when the Telangana Health Department resumed the vaccination drive against the Wuhan virus, also known as the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) for people above 45 years old, waiting for their second dose. 

Due to the shortage of the two India made COVID-19 vaccinations, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government decided to halt the drive for all, including people who are due to take the second dose.  The decision to do so was taken by K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana.  On the 16th of May, he instructed the concerned officials to halt the drive due to the shortage of vaccines.  He also instructed officials to identify super spreaders and provide vaccination to them.

However, on the 25th of May, KCR asked the officials to resume the drive for administering the second dose of COVID-19 vaccination for people above 45 years of age.   

Meanwhile, according to sources, till the 10th of May, approximately 8.3 lakh people, which is nearly 2 % of the total population are fully vaccinated with both the doses. In addition, close to 43.71 lakh people received their first vaccination doses against the Wuhan virus. 

The total population of Telangana is close to 4 crores.
