Telangana’s Khammam district is witnessing a massive number of Wuhan virus, also known as the Novel Coronavirus (COVID) in children.

According to sources, ahead of the possible third wave, the district reported more than 1,400 COVID-19 infections in children between the age group of 0 to 12 years old. In April and May, a total of 800 children were infected with the COVID-19 infection. In June the number increased to 1,480 with 680 new Wuhan virus cases.

The COVID-19 infection in children in Khammam came into light after a house to house survey conducted by the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government. K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, directed the concerned authorities of Khammam district and other districts to conduct a house to house survey for COVID-19. During the survey, the authorities reported 16,302 cases, of which 1,480 were children.

Most of the infected children have mild symptoms and the situation is said to be under control in the district. The concerned administrators took all the necessary measures and shifted the children with mild symptoms to the COVID-19 ward of the district headquarters. The admitted children are being treated for the Wuhan virus infection at the COVID-19 designated ward.

Commenting on the same, the District Hospital Officer Dr. P. Malathi, said, the recovery rate of children in the district is 100 % as of now.

The news came at a time when the TRS Government lifted the imposed lockdown in Telangana. The State was under complete lockdown from the 12th of May till the 19th of June. However, later considering the controlled situation and reduced number of COVID-19 cases, K. Chandrashekar Rao and the Telangana Cabinet ministers unanimously approved the decision to lift the lockdown.

However, the State Government urged people to be cautious and follow all the guidelines of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Meanwhile, till the 23rd of June, Telangana has 6,15,574 positive cases, of which 16,640 are active cases, 5,95,348 are recovered/discharged cases and 3,586 are deceased cases of the Wuhan virus.
