Announced by K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, the State Government is all set to run 40 special trains to shift migrant workers to their native places.

The trains specially organised for the stranded migrant workers in the State are going to function from the 5th of May, everyday for a week.

Mr. Rao announced to run these 40 special trains for the migrant workers on the 4th of May during a review meeting.  The decision was taken during the late night of the 4th of May and would help thousands of workers who were protesting against the State Government, demanding to go back home.

These migrant workers were demanding to go back to their native places since the lockdown started tat the end of March.  However, due to the strict rules and guidelines by the Ministry of Home Affairs, they had no choice but to stay where they were without any  jobs and money due to the Novel Coronavirus.  

Later, on the 1st of May, the MHA announced to shift migrant workers, following which the state governments started to run trains and ferry them back to their native places.

The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) issued a statement regarding the same which read, “Telangana government proposes 40 special trains a day for one week from Tuesday to send back home stranded migrant workers.”   

The special trains would be running from various stations like Hyderabad, Warangal, Khammam, Damarcherla and other cities in Telangana and would take the migrant labourers to Bihar, Odisha, Jharkhand, West Bengal and other states.  All the migrant workers need to register themselves  with the local police to avail the special train services and go back to their native places.

Sandeep Sultania, the Senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) Officer and Jitendra, a Senior Indian Public Service (IPS) Officer would review the travel of migrant workers.

The special trains would run till the  11th of May.
