Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) employees are expected to stage dharnas outside the residences of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) ministers.

On the 10th of November, the TSRTC Joint Action Committee (JAC) and the Telangana Congress Core Committee (TCCC) conducted a meeting and decided to stage protests across Telangana.

INC leaders V. Hanumantha Rao, Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, S.A. Sampath Kumar, Challa Vamshi Chand Reddy and others were present during the meeting.

The series of protests were organised to build pressure on the TRS Government so the latter holds talks with the TSRTC employees and agrees to their demands.

The demands put forward by the TSRTC employees are the merging of the TSRTC with the State Government and better welfare and insurance schemes for the TSRTC workers.

However, the K. Chandrashekar Rao led TRS Government refused to accept the employees’ demands and passed orders to privatise the bus routes in the State.

On the 11th of November, the TSRTC workers, with the support of the Indian National Congress (INC) leaders, would sit on dharnas outside the residences of TRS ministers and officials.

On the 12th of November, E. Ashwathama Reddy, the Convenor of the JAC, would go on a one day hunger strike.  The TSRTC employees are also expected to go on a strike at every bus depot in Telangana.

In addition, the TSRTC employees also decided to conduct a ‘Sadak Bandh’ on the 18th of November.

Meanwhile, a committee headed by S.A. Sampath Kumar is expected to meet Rekha Sharma, the Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission and Women’s Commission.  Sampath Kumar would meet Ms. Rekha and submit a report by the TSRTC employees to the NHRC, asking for the Commission’s intervention in the matter.

The TSRTC strike, which started on the 5th of October, entered its 38th day on the 11th of November.

Stay tuned for further updates.
