Recently on the 30th of May, a retired headmaster named Kotaiah, died due to the Wuhan virus or the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19.)

The death of Mr. Kotaiah made headlines as he addressed the media and said, after receiving Anandaiah’s Ayurvedic doses, he completely recovered from the Wuhan virus infection. However, he was not recovered and was admitted to the Nellore Government Hospital a week ago, after his health deteriorated. Later, on the night of the 30th of May, Kotaian died due to the Wuhan virus infection, while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

The Ayurvedic medicine which is popular in A.P., is prepared by a local Ayurveda practitioner Bonigi Anandiah. The medicine which has been prepared in three categories, one for preventing the Wuhan virus, another for the infected people with mild symptoms and the third one is for infected persons who are on oxygen support, came as a huge relief to people who tested positive for the Wuhan virus. The medicine is purported to give a permanent solution and a speedy recovery from the infection. This incident of death, involving Anandaiah’s Ayurvedic medicine, came at a time when it was waiting for a clinical approval to be distributed amongst the people. The Andhra Pradesh Government recently conducted several examinations of the Ayurvedic medication for people involving the Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) doctors from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR.) The final report of ICMR AYUSH doctors team would decide, if the Ayurvedic drug would be distributed to the A.P., people or not.

Meanwhile, A.P., High Court is reviewing a case against the authenticity and non registration of B. Anandaiah with the Ayurvedic Council as an Ayurvedic expert.

A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed with the A.P., HC by two advocates P. Mallikarjuna Rao and M. Umamaheswara Naidu. As per the PIL, the two advocates asked the HC to direct the Ayurvedic expert B. Anandaiah to register with the Ayurvedic Council. In addition, a separate petition was filed by B. Anandaiah, regarding the permission of the distribution of the Ayurvedic drug from the State Government.

The Andhra Pradesh HC adjourned the matter to the 31st of May.
