Tamil Nadu Police Arrest a mother and a male accomplice, on the 7th of June. The Tamil Nadu Police registered a case against a minor’s mother and her male acquaintance.
According to sources, the Tamil Nadu Police revealed that a woman and her male acquaintance allegedly raped the minor repeatedly and forced her to sell her oocytes, or female gamete cells also known as female eggs. The victim’s mother, who was in the egg selling business, used to trade the minor’s egg illegally to different hospitals in the area. Furthermore, in the past 4 years, the two accused traded the victim’s oocytes at least 8 times.
The incident came to light after the victim decided to leave her family and file a complaint against her mother and the male acquaintance. After leaving her mother, the victim stayed with a friend in Salem for a few days, following which she went to some relatives and told them about the torture.
Furthermore, a team of officials from the Directorate of Medical and Rural Health Services conducted a lengthy interview with the girl on the 5th of June, Sunday. During the interview, the girl mentioned that her mother and the male acquaintance each received Rs. 20,000 for each sale of the teen’s eggs.
After investigation, the Tamil Nadu Police arrested the two accused, the mother and her male friend under several sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO) Act. In addition, the police also charged them under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 420, 464, 41, 506 (ii), and Sections 34 and 35 of the Aadhaar (Targeted) Delivery of Financial and Other Subsidies Benefits and Services Act.
