The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Telangana, on the 24th of July, requested E.S.L. Narasimhan, the Governor of Telangana, not to accept the Municipal Bill drafted by the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS.)

The BJP leaders met Narasimhan and asked him to disapprove the Bill as it caters to the personal interests of the TRS instead of the citizens of the State.

Krishan Saagar Rao, the Spokesperson of the BJP in Telangana, addressed the media and said, a BJP delegation led by Bandaru Dattatreya and Raja Singh submitted a report to the Governor and asked him to intervene in the passing of the Bill, as it is against the constitutional provisions.

On the 23rd of July, the Governor also rejected some of the clauses of the Bill and asked the Government to change them and get back to him.

The TRS Government accepted the changes and said, “We welcome the constructive, pro people decision of the State Governor in returning the Bill and safeguarding the Constitutional spirit. We appreciate the action taken by him.”

Krishna Saagar Rao further alleged K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR,) the Chief Minister of Telangana, for taking the Ordinance route to fulfill his political interests.

According to the opposition parties, the Municipal Bill drafted by the TRS is going to benefit them in the upcoming Municipal elections, which are scheduled to be held in the first week of August.

The BJP claimed the Bill is faulty and said, “How can bills with such glaring lapses and in utter violation of the Constitutional provisions are being drafted? Are these bills prepared by the AIS officials in the State Secretariat or some clerical grade people sitting in Telangana Bhavan?”

Krishna Saagar went on and criticised the All India Service (AIS) officers for drafting something like this, which violates the Constitution of India.

He took a dig at KCR for not using the ordinance route to introduce 10 % quota for Economically Weaker Section (EWS) as there, KCR did not have any personal benefit and political interests.

Saagar Rao said, “KCR could not take ordinance route to provide the 10 per cent EWS reservations or to fill the vacancies of the universities using the ordinance of the Centre issued in the peoples’ interest. Because there was no political interest involved for him or TRS in it.”

Ever since the TRS introduced the Municipal Bill (Amendment,) 2019, the BJP and the Indian National Congress (INC) are criticising the KCR led TRS Government.
