With the increasing number of cases in Srikalahasti town of Chittoor district, Andhra Pradesh (A.P.,) the State Government announced the town to be a containment zone.
In regard to this, the Andhra Pradesh Government a announced complete lockdown in Srikalahasti town. As many as 73 positive cases of the Novel Coronavirus were reported in the district till date.
On the 23rd of April, 14 new cases of COVID-19, reported in Chittoor, out of which 5 were from Srikalahasti, Yerravaripalem with three cases, and the mandals of Tirupati Urban, B.N. Kandriga, Yerpedu, Chinnagottigallu and Puttur one each.
Narayana Bharat Gupta, the District Collector of Chittoor, said the district management made all the arrangements to handle COVID-19 cases. He said, so far, 5,740 sample tests were conducted in the district. Out of the total samples tested, 1,846 sample results are awaited
Mr. Bharat Gupta said, “Fifteen quarantine centres have been set up in the district ever since positive COVID-19 cases surfaced in the district. These centres are equipped to handle 1,740 cases. At present, 414 persons are under quarantine. In relief camps, we are providing food and shelter to 2,111 people.”
The District Collector said, concerned of the increasing cases, especially in Srikalahasti, strict lockdown guidelines would be implemented. The district authority would provide door delivery by volunteers for essential commodities and medicines.
The management urged people to cooperate and help to curb the spread of the Novel Coronavirus in the town and Chittoor district.
