Cyclone ‘Biparjoy’ in the Arabian Sea is said to be the worst cyclone in India.  Standing with the meaning of name, Biparjoy (disaster, calamity) the cyclone is one of the worst natural disasters in the history of India.

The cyclone from Arabian sea is setting a unique record as it is expected to continue for at least over 10 days.  Notably, since 1982, Biparjoy has become the longest lasting high intensity cyclone to form in the Arabian Sea.  The cyclone which is forming over the past five days, and its intensity has rapidly escalated, now reaching severe cyclone status.   Comparing Biparjoy’s duration to previous cyclones, Cyclone Kyarr, which formed in the Arabian Sea in October 2019, lasted for nine days and fifteen hours. In contrast, Biparjoy, which formed on June 6, has already persisted for seven days and is expected to continue for a total of ten days, making it the longest-lasting cyclone on record.

While the intensity is expected to decrease slightly, it will still remain a severe cyclone when it makes landfall between Gujarat and Pakistan on the 15th of June.   The cyclone with the wind speed of 125 to 135 km per hour, would be making effects in Rajasthan on the 16th of June. 

However,  after the 16th of June, experts said that after hitting the coast, the cyclone would weaken further and transform into a low pressure zone.   The impact of Cyclone Biparjoy is already evident as large waves are crashing onto the shores, with the Arabian Sea experiencing intense churning.   

Meanwhile, the Central Government held meetings and assured all kind of assistance to states of Gujarat, Mumbai and Rajasthan.
