The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) on Thursday launched protests at thermal power plants and Singareni offices across Telangana, raising concerns over coal supplies and power generation.
BRS leaders visited Yadadri, Kothagudem, Bhadradri and Kakatiya thermal power plants, along with the Singareni headquarters in Hyderabad. They sought details on coal stocks, power generation and the shutdown of some units.
At Yadadri Thermal Power Station, former minister G Jagadish Reddy led the protest. BRS leaders alleged that coal shortages had affected generation. At Kakatiya Thermal Power Project in Bhupalpally, police stopped the BRS team from entering initially, leading to a scuffle and a protest at the gate.
At Singareni Bhavan, BRS leaders submitted a representation seeking higher coal production and better supplies to power plants. The party has also demanded an independent probe into an alleged discrepancy involving 40 lakh tonnes of coal.
Meanwhile, the Telangana government has reviewed the power situation and decided to source coal from Mahanadi Coalfields and Coal India to support generation at Yadadri.
