Farmers in Telangana’s Palamuru region are facing challenges as several crops have withered due to water shortages and power cuts. The situation has raised concerns about irrigation facilities and the progress of major water projects.
On November 1, former Minister C. Laxma Reddy and former MP Manne Srinivas Reddy visited Ammapur village in Mahabubnagar district to inspect damaged crops.
During the visit, Laxma Reddy blamed the Congress government for failing to complete pending irrigation projects. He also pointed to inadequate power supply as a major reason for crop losses.
He highlighted the case of farmer Balayya, who invested Rs 2 lakh to cultivate eight acres. Crops on four acres have completely withered, leaving him worried about the remaining land.
Laxma Reddy said the Palamuru-Rangareddy project remained incomplete despite its importance in tackling drought conditions. He claimed its reservoirs have a combined storage capacity of 70 TMC.
He demanded crop-loss compensation for affected farmers and urged the government to declare Nawabpet and Midjil mandals drought-affected.
