Women’s self-help groups play an important role in supporting families and small businesses across Tamil Nadu. Financial support can help these groups grow their work and create better income opportunities.
Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay distributed financial assistance worth ₹1,110 crore to women’s self-help groups at a government programme in Perundurai, Erode district, on November 3.
The programme covered around 4,000 self-help groups from 13 districts. The support includes bank-linked loans and other financial help to improve women’s income and support small businesses.
Women from Erode, Karur, Tiruppur, Salem, Namakkal, Coimbatore and other districts attended the event.
During his visit, Vijay also took part in the opening of completed development works. His road journey from Coimbatore airport to Perundurai received a warm welcome from supporters and members of the public.
The programme forms part of the state government’s efforts under Mahalir Thittam to support women’s self-help groups and improve their financial independence.
