India is looking to increase the use of clean energy as demand for electricity continues to grow. Solar and wind power are becoming important parts of this shift.
In a major development, NHPC and Essar Power’s renewable energy unit will work together on a 300 MW green energy project in southern Andhra Pradesh.
The project will combine solar power, wind energy and battery storage to supply renewable electricity. Essar Power’s parent company plans to invest around ₹4,500 crore in the project.
NHPC, India’s largest hydropower producer, has also been expanding its work in solar and wind energy. The new partnership adds to these efforts.
Essar Power said the project is part of its plan to build a 5 GW power portfolio across renewable, thermal and gas-based energy.
The project also supports India’s wider goal of expanding clean energy and improving the reliability of its power supply.
