Amaravati: Janasena has taken legal action against the Election Commission’s decision to assign the ‘glass’ symbol to independent candidates, filing a petition in the High Court. The party’s general secretary requested the exclusive allocation of the symbol to Janasena candidates, arguing potential damage to their alliance with TDP and BJP.

The court proceedings revealed Janasena’s concern over the perceived bias in the symbol allocation, emphasizing the need for equitable treatment. Despite previous petitions, the Election Commission has yet to reach a decision, prompting Janasena’s legal challenge.

In response, the Election Commission assured the court of a resolution within 24 hours, leading to the adjournment of further proceedings until Wednesday. Additionally, the Tirumala Devasthanams Employees and Pensioners Association (TDEPA) submitted a supplementary petition, seeking an opportunity to present arguments in the case.

The controversy stems from the allocation of the ‘glass’ symbol to independent candidates in constituencies where Janasena is not contesting. This move, criticized by opposition parties, is viewed as a potential strategy to divide votes and disrupt electoral clarity.

With 21 Legislative Assembly and 2 Lok Sabha seats at stake, Janasena’s legal battle underscores the importance of fair electoral practices and transparency in symbol allotment.
