PM Modi Interacts With Gram Sarpanches, Asks To Maintain “Do Gaj Doori”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the 24th of April, interacted with the gram pradhans on the occasion of the Panchayati Raj Divas.

Mr. Modi asked all the sarpanches to ask the villagers to maintain “Do gaj doori” (two metre distance.)

Mr. Modi interacted with Sarpanches one by one and discussed the Coronavirus or COVID-19 situation of their respective villages.

Palwi Thakur, the Sarpanch of Hada village of Pathankot updated the measures taken during the lockdown to contain the spread of the Coronavirus. 

Mr. Modi praised the efforts of villages and  asked them to reduce the use of Urea for agricultural purposes as fertilizers.

Mr. Modi interacted with pradhans of villages in Jammu and Kashmir, Bihar, Maharashtra, Punjab and Assam.  Mr. Modi apologised for not interacting with all the sarpanches of all villages due to the lack of time.  

Mr. Modi concluded the video conference announcing precautionary measures and mandatory usage of sanitizers, face masks, availability of essential commodities and social distancing.  Mr. Modi said, “Respect, but also suspect. Do gaj ki doori. Cover your face, even a gamcha works.”

Mr. Modi said villages are an inspiration, “Even in this crisis, everyone is taking up initiatives. Mahatma Gandhi used to say, my vision of Swaraj is Gram Swaraj.”

The Prime Minister wished all the panchayat heads for winning the awards on the Panchayati Raj Divas and urged them to check the awardees name on the official website.  He congratulated all the awardees and urged them to maintain the precautionary measures to curb the spread of the Novel Coronavirus.

Meanwhile, India reported a total of 23,077 cases of Novel Coronavirus infection with 718 deaths.
