On the 24th of April, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Sumitra Yojana App and the E Gram Swaraj Portal and App.
The Saumitra Yojana scheme is a fixed deposit scheme for members especially, women to grow and invest in their businesses by taking loans. The E Gram Swaraj Portal app is an accounting app which simplifies the work of the Panchayat Raj in India. It will strengthen e governance of the Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) across India.
After the launch, Mr. Modi addressed the Nation and spoke about the efforts of villages during the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19.
Mr. Modi interacted with all the participants through a video conference and wished those sarpanches awarded today on the Panchayati Raj Divas.
Addressing the the villagers, Mr. Modi said, “Coronavirus’s biggest message is making people learn the path of self-dependence. We cannot fight such epidemics without being self-reliant. Villages should at their level become self-reliant, so should zillas.” He also said, “The more strong our panchayats are, (the) stronger is democracy.”
Highlighting growth and development, Mr. Modi said previously, panchayats in India did not have broadband internet services, but today more than 2 lakh panchayats have broadband.
Mr. Modi said the villages are the inspiration for the most intellectual people and follow social distancing strictly with simplified words “Do gaj door” (Two metre distance.)
Mr. Modi spoke to sarpanches of the various panchayat and took the ground level updates regarding the situation due to the Novel Coronavirus.
The interaction with gram pradhans or sarpanches started at 11:30 and is underway.
