Mr. K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, inaugurated 8 medical colleges in the Telugu State.
On the 15th of November, Tuesday, Mr. K. Chandrashekar Rao, inaugurated the medical institutions, in a virtual event, at the Pragathi Bhavan, Hyderabad, Telangana. During the inauguration, Mr. K. Chandrashekar Rao said, “Our target is to bring a government medical college to every district. With this launch, we have a medical college in 17 districts. The number will soon come to 33 medical colleges in all the 33 districts in the state.”
In addition, Mr. K.T. Rama Rao, the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister of Telangana said, “Red-letter Day for Telangana in Medical Education & Health sector as 8 New medical colleges being launched by Hon’ble CM KCR Garu today 3 Medical Colleges were established in 57 Years in United AP; Telangana Govt Established 12 Medical Colleges in Just 8 Years.”
This is the first time that the State Government led by the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS,) inaugurated 8 medical colleges across Telangana, altogether. The medical institutes are built and operational for 2022-2023 academic year, in Sangareddy, Mahabubabad, Mancherial, Jagtial, Wanaparthy, Kothagudem, Nagarkurnool and Ramagundam. The colleges would offer additional 1,200 medical seats for MBBS students for the 2022-2023 academic year.
For the establishment of the state run government colleges, the K. Chandrashekar Rao led TRS now known as the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS,) released Rs. 4,080 crores. For each medical college, the Telangana Government spent Rs. 510 crores.
Apart from the 1,200 MBBS seats, an additional 1,068 seats from private medical colleges would also be available to students from this academic year after the State government’s decision to reserve 85% of B category medical seats in private medical colleges for students from Telangana.
Mr. T. Harish Rao, the Health Minister of Telangana, on the 7th of November, announced the same and said, the KCR led Telangana Government established 8 medical colleges without any kind of financial help from the Centre.
It is to be noted, in 2014, Telangana had a total of 850 medical seats and by 2022, the number has increased to 2,901. Furthermore, in the next few years, the Telangana Government is planning to increase the number of medical colleges to 33, with an aim of having each medical college in every district of Telangana.
