BRS Leader Raises Questions Over Telangana’s Water Plans

Telangana is facing concerns over water supplies amid drought conditions. The use of available river water for farming and drinking needs has become a key issue in the state.

On Tuesday, BRS general secretary T. Jeevan Reddy urged the Congress government to resume water pumping at the Kannepalli pump house. Speaking at Telangana Bhavan, he said the move could help meet irrigation and drinking water needs.

He suggested building a cofferdam, a temporary structure used to hold back water, if water levels were too low for pumping. He said a similar method used at the Sitarama project could be considered at Kannepalli.

Jeevan Reddy claimed that pumping one TMC foot of water daily could provide 150 TMC feet over five months. He also criticised rules asking farmers to submit self-declarations when buying paddy seeds, saying they could discourage cultivation.

He said the Kaleshwaram project could help during the dry spell by supporting irrigation, drinking water supply and power generation.

The BRS leader also questioned the progress of the proposed Tummidihatti project and called for repairs to existing infrastructure.
