The INDIA bloc has been raising concerns over alleged problems in India’s election process. The opposition alliance is planning a series of events to press its demand for action against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The alliance will hold a planned “public impeachment” event on October 30 at the official residence of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge in New Delhi.
The event was first planned at Ashok Hotel and later at Ramlila Maidan. However, Congress leaders said they could not get permission to hold it at those venues.
Congress general secretary K. C. Venugopal alleged that the restrictions were aimed at stopping the opposition from speaking out. These claims have been made by the Congress.
The October 30 event will take place ahead of an INDIA bloc rally scheduled for November 1 at Ramlila Maidan. The alliance has said that 21 opposition parties planned the event as part of their campaign over alleged electoral irregularities and the voter list revision process.
The Congress and other opposition parties are demanding Kumar’s resignation. The planned events are part of their ongoing protest.
