Cyclone Murasu Weakens, But AP Remains Alert

Cyclone Murasu brought heavy rainfall to several parts of Andhra Pradesh, mainly across the Godavari region. The changing weather conditions had also raised concerns about rising water levels in rivers, reservoirs and drains.

However, the cyclone’s impact has now weakened, with rainfall easing across the State on Thursday. Officials said most areas received little or no rain, while a few places reported light to moderate showers.

According to the State Emergency Operations Centre, the heaviest rainfall over the past two days was recorded in Nidadavole, Kovvur and Kakinada, followed by parts of Konaseema.

Water levels in several reservoirs and drains have also stabilised. The Prakasam Barrage is releasing water at the same rate as it receives it. Water levels in Thammileru and Budameru have also started falling.

No heavy rainfall warning is currently in force. However, light to moderate rain is expected in some areas, with Nellore, Tirupati and Bapatla likely to receive slightly more rain towards the weekend.

Authorities have advised people in low-lying areas to remain cautious and follow safety instructions.
