After the intervention of the Supreme Court (SC) in the Krishna River water dispute, the Telangana Government called for an urgent meeting.
Recently, the Andhra Pradesh Government led by the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) filed a petition in the matter.
In regard to this, the Telangana Chief Minister Mr.K.Chandrasekhar Rao called for a meeting on the 8th of August. During the meeting, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government is likely to finalise the action plan for the Krishna River water dispute matter.
This would be the second meeting in a week regarding the matter. Recently on the 6th of August, the TRS Government held a high level meeting and discussed the dispute with Andhra Pradesh in depth. Another meeting regarding the same is scheduled on Sunday.
The meeting held yesterday had an in depth review of the verdicts given by the Bachawat Tribunal and the Brijesh Kumar Tribunal on the rightful and legal share of allocation of waters as a right to Telangana. During the meeting, the State Government decided to get the state’s rightful share of the allocation of water and to continue hydel power generation. The hydel power generation by the Telangana Government is being conducted to run a lift irrigation scheme, helping the farmers of the State.
It is to be noted, besides the TRS meeting, a high level board meeting with the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB,) the Godavari River Management Board (GRMB) and the Andhra Pradesh Government is scheduled to have a meeting regarding the Krishna River water distribution.
