Another bad day for the reputation of government-run Niloufer Hospital during the inspection. A mother has alleged that her stillborn baby was given to her in a cardboard box.

The woman, Anusha was admitted at Niloufer Hospital for her delivery on Monday evening and delivered on Tuesday morning. The parents were in a state of shock when they were told their baby was stillborn. To add to their misery, Anusha has said that the Hospital wrapped her baby in a piece of paper and placed it in a cardboard box and handed it to her.

Sunitha, Anusha’s mother spoke to The New Indian Express and said, We brought Anusha to the hospital. After the birth of a stillborn baby, a nurse kept the baby in a cardboard box and handed over to us”.

Amusingly, this happened while the State Health Minister Dr. Laxma Reddy was doing an inspection of the hospital.

Deccan Chronicle reported that Anusha’s mother decided to take matters in her hand and walked into the room where the minister was inspecting and showed him the box that took him by surprise.

The DC report goes on to say that a few claimed the box was from somewhere else and was being used to shame the hospital while others report that the box was given to the couple because they had to travel by bus.

Niloufer Hospital has been on a downward slide the last couple of months. Five women who underwent a C-section at the hospital suspiciously died in just one week. A week ago, another 22-year-old woman underwent a C-section, died due to respiratory problems which was later linked to the hospital giving her government banned medication.

The Telangana Police took action after these deaths by firing superintendent Dr. C Suresh Kumar and Dr. K Usha Rani, a resident medical officer. The police have also ordered a probe into the death of the five women by an IAS officer.
